A Legacy for Learning Charitable Remainder Unitrust
Chuck Merry '57 and Barb Merry, Friend of Lawrence
As a first-generation college student I was able to afford tuition at Lawrence through the assistance of a scholarship. My four years at Lawrence were a life-changing experience. In addition to engaging in challenging academic experiences at the college, I was also involved in athletics, which rounded out my experience and paved the way for lifelong friendships. Barb and I wanted to ensure that future generations of deserving students who might not be able to afford tuition can benefit from a first-rate Lawrence liberal arts education.
We have made provisions that include Lawrence in a charitable remainder unitrust. This allows us to fulfill our philanthropic objectives of enabling future students to receive a Lawrence education. The arrangement allowed us to benefit from a substantial income tax deduction and we receive regular payments from the trust during our lifetimes. Eventually the trust will come to Lawrence to endow the Chuck and Barb Merry Scholarship. This fund will forever preserve the Merry legacy at Lawrence.

Clare Scherf Sweetman Scholarship
"The thing I admire most about Lawrence is the diverse community. You are accepted and treated fairly no matter where you are from. Lawrence does not only teach you what you need to know it also helps you to be independent and prepare you to be successful for the future. I have always wanted to be in this prestigious and diverse university. I will forever be grateful to the Clare Scherf Sweetman Scholarship for helping me reach my dream."
